Renting an ATV or UTV for the Hatfield-McCoy Trails

Private outfitters rent machines for trail trips. The Authority's 2025 brochure says it does not rent machines or equipment and does not endorse or have an affiliation with any particular outfitter.

Fly in and rent

The Authority's No Machine, No Problem guide pairs flying in with local machine rentals and links to West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) in Charleston. Confirm your outfitter's location, pickup arrangements and ground transportation before booking.

Find an outfitter

Start with the Authority's lodging directory when planning where to stay and ride. Its machine rental directory lists private rental providers. Contact an outfitter directly for current availability and terms; a directory listing is not an endorsement.

Ask before booking

  • Which machine and seat count fit your group, and which trail systems may it use?
  • What insurance is included, and what is your responsibility if the machine is damaged?
  • Is delivery to your lodging or trailhead available, and where do you return the machine?
  • Is each rider's trail permit included, or must you buy permits separately?
  • Are DOT or Snell approved helmets and eye protection available in the right sizes?
  • What damage deposit is required, and when is it returned?

Every driver and passenger needs a permit and approved helmet and eye protection. For a UTV, ask for its owner's manual and make sure each passenger has a factory seat belt. Read the family and first ride guide and check the current maps before choosing a machine.
